Monarchs split doubleheader at Xenia

6/23/10 Xenia, OH---

The Monarchs dropped the second game of their doubleheader vs Xenia in another one run game 7-6.

The team is now 3-4 in one run games this year while dropping to 6-4-1 in the Great Lakes Collegiate Summer League. The team is 7-5-1 overall. Xenia is now 4-7 on the season.

Mike Moyer (Western Michigan) received the loss after starting the game and leaving after the second inning.

Lake Erie's next game is tomorrow evening at Adrian College's Nicolay Field at 7:15 p.m. vs the Delaware Cows.

Monarchs take first game from Xenia

6/23/10 Xenia, OH---

The Lake Erie Monarchs defeated the Xenia Scouts today by a score of 6-2 in the first game of a doubleheader.

Alex Radon (1-1) got his first win of the season, while Jeff Kelly (Pittsburgh) pitched the last two innings, but didn't qualify for a save. Cory Popham (1-1) took the loss for the Scouts.

Alex Johnson (Cleveland State) picked up where he left off last night going 3-4 with three runs scored and two stolen bases.

The Monarchs are now 6-3-1 on the season, while Xenia falls to 3-7. The win, at least, temporarily moves the Monarchs one win away from tying for most wins in the league. Hamilton, who is 7-4, plays tonight at 7 p.m.

The second game will start shortly before 7 p.m. A complete game story will be posted later tonight.

Monarchs win another one run game

6/22/10 Celina, OH---

The Monarchs defeated the Grand Lake Mariners tonight by a score of 5-4. Lake Erie is now 3-3 in one run games this year and 5-3-1 in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League.

Lake Erie leads the league in pitching for games through June 21 with a 2.54 ERA and have allowed the fewest runs and earned runs.

Mike McKinley got the win for the Monarchs tonight, and Dylan Vogt got the save. It is the fourth straight game Vogt has been on the mound at the end of the game.

Offensively, the Monarchs made the most of their hits tonight scoring five runs on seven hits. The next action for Lake Erie is a doubleheader tomorrow at Xenia beginning at 4 p.m.
