Quartet of UT Rockets Join Monarchs PDF Print E-mail

Adrian, MI -- The Lake Erie Monarchs signed four players today from the University of Toledo.

Downers Grove, Illinois native A.J. DeMarco who is a sophomore catcher for the Rockets will be one of seven Chicagoland players on the Monarchs 2010 team. He prepped at Downers Grove North and was ranked among the top ten catchers in Illinois by the Chicago Sun times. He hit .286 for UT in 2009 in 16 games played. A.J. has a twin sister, Kelsey.

Dan Sherwood was the second Rocket to sign with the Monarchs. Sherwood, a junior played his high school ball at Cleveland area baseball powerhouse, Walsh Jesuit, which has contributed other players to the Monarchs Baseball program. Sherwood is a left handed hitting outfielder making 44 starts for UT. (41 in right field) He hit .266 with 11 home runs and 32 RBI.

Sylvania native Alex Radon has signed on to pitch for the Monarchs. Radon, who appeared in nine UT games in 2009 played his high school baseball at Toledo St. Francis DeSales. He threw 21 innings including six shutout innings versus Kent State in the MAC Tournament Finals.

Another pitcher rounds out the UT contingent for the Monarchs. Sophomore Tyler Scott who hails from Novi, Michigan is a 6’6” right handed pitcher. He saw nine innings of action in his freshman campaign.  Scott played at Novi High school, the same high school as former Monarchs star, Mitch Maier.

Maier also played at UT before being drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 1st Round of the 2003 MLB Draft. 

“We are very honored to have such a great group of players from the University of Toledo” said Monarchs Head Coach Mike Montgomery. 

Lake Erie Monarchs rosters have included a total of 25 UT players since the team’s beginning in 1999.
