Coming into the day 1 game behind Xenia in the Great Lakes League standings, the Monarchs had a golden opportunity to make a push for the playoffs. However, Lake Erie had a difficult time getting the bats going, falling both games of the doubleheader. Game 1 saw the Monarchs lose a close game 2-1. Game 2 saw the Monarchs struggle and lose 7-1. The Monarchs are now 11-21 and fall to eighth place in the Great Lakes League standings. 

In game one, the Monarchs struck quickly, scoring a run in the first inning after Dallas Burke had a 2-out single, followed by a Kolbrin Vitek double. Burke then scored from third on an error by the Xenia second baseman. The Monarchs put together 4 more hits on the day, but couldn’t get anything strung together to score any more runs. Xenia scored 2 runs in the third inning on 2 hits and an error to earn them a 2-1 victory. 

Brian Koehl started for the Monarchs, throwing a complete game. He allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits, and 1 walk while striking out 1.  

In game two, the game fell apart for the Monarchs right from the beginning. Xenia grabbed a 5 run lead in the first inning after scoring 5 runs on 6 hits and 2 errors; A lead that the Scouts would never give back. The Monarchs scored their lone run in the sixth, already down 7-0. Mike Frigo scored from third on a fly out to center by Vitek. Frigo got on base by way of a walk and was advanced on a single by Dallas Burke. The hit by Burke was the only one for the Monarchs in the game. 

Tim Corbey started for Lake Erie, pitching 4 complete while allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 8 hits and 2 walks while accumulating 3 strikeouts. Dan Gatins threw the final 2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits and 0 walks. He also added 2 strikeouts to his credit.
